EDITORIAL: Honestly Did Not Think Using AI For Job Hunting Would Work So Well

After a long break from work, I had to reenter the job market.

Everything had changed.

Roles were posted in new places. Résumés were filtered by machines. Cover letters were still expected, but no one had time to read them.

I was ten years out of practice and out of touch.

I did not have a roadmap. I had questions. I had a blank document. And I had no idea where to begin.

So I asked AI.

Finding clarity through conversation

I started by using ChatGPT to help me figure out what I actually wanted.

After years working as a lawyer, I knew I needed something new.

I liked technology. I still cared about law. But I was not sure how to connect the two.

I told the AI about my interests, strengths, and goals. I described the kind of impact I wanted to have.

It asked good questions.

We narrowed things down together.

In a few sessions, I had a list of companies and roles that made sense. Not generic suggestions. Real leads that matched my skills and values.

That alone made the process less stressful. I was not chasing every job. I was targeting the right ones.

Turning materials into momentum

Next I used ChatGPT to improve my résumé. I uploaded the old version and explained the types of roles I wanted.

It rewrote the entire thing in minutes.

The tone was clear. The format was tight. The language focused on outcomes.

It sounded like me, but sharper.

Cover letters came next. I had always dreaded them.

With AI, I just shared a few key points about each company. It generated clean drafts that were ready to send with only minor edits.

That alone saved me hours.

Then I practiced for interviews.

ChatGPT created role-specific questions and gave feedback on my answers.

It helped me cut the fluff and stay focused.

I did mock sessions out loud and felt myself getting better.

Not robotic. Just more direct. More clear.

Getting the offer

Two months later, I landed a role.

It used everything I had done before and everything I wanted to do next.

This job is not just a paycheck.

It is a full-circle moment.

I used AI to step into a field where I now get to look at the future of it from an ad perspective.

Would I do it again? Yes.

AI did not replace the work. It made the work better.

It helped me stay focused. It kept me from spinning out.

It made the hardest parts feel possible.

If you are reentering the job market or trying to pivot, AI is not a shortcut.

It is a tool.

It gives you space to think and helps you move with intention.

I would not have landed this job without it.

Not because it did the work for me.

But because it helped me see what I could do and say it well.

The ever changing world

Realizing that you HAVE to utilize tools in order to get ahead is a skill that everyone should understand. The world changes and there’s always good that comes with the bad, it’s how you adapt as an early adopter that will make your journey easier or harder. Don’t give up, I know the tunnel light looks for or looks like there is no light, but I PROMISE there is.
